– Samuel Alcide is the Base Manager at Haiti Communitere, which is a resource center for Haitian NGO’s and community organizations, as well as a safe and secure housing/meeting space for visiting NGOs. It is the center where RG’s first workspace began!
Samuel spent several years working in the United States, and has been working for HC for 4 years, since they opened. He has been involved in several NGOs here in Haiti, such as the Rec Cross, Medecins Sans Frontieres, and Builders Without Borders. Samuel was working on an alternative housing project with BWB, connected with HC, and upon that project’s completion, HC hired him as base manager. He runs the daily operations at HC and is the connection with several of their outside projects. He also is involved in the organization Konbit Misik, which connects musicians from Cite Soleil and has Open Mic shows. He came to speak to the students about responsibility, work ethic, and management skills. The students responded very well and had several excellent questions regarding applying for jobs, differences working in Haiti and the US, and about the community involvement that HC work with. Samuel’s talk was truly inspiring, and talked about how with hard work, dedication and positivity, you can succeed. In the weeks since, the students have asked have Samuel back to speak again – hopefully he’ll be able to fit us into his insanely busy schedule!
