Why Shoes Matter

In Haiti, schools require children to wear appropriate closed toe shoes, but for families living in poverty, even one pair can be out of reach. Without shoes, children can’t attend school, limiting their futures. Through REBUILD globally’s partnership with Deux Mains, we provide durable school shoes, made in Haiti and given to the children who need them most.

Made in Haiti, For Haitian Students

We face many barriers in Haiti. First, very few people have full time jobs, only 15% of the population as a matter of fact, making it very difficult for them to afford the things they need for thier families to thrive. Second, every school child needs a good pair of school shoes to complete their uniform in order to attend school.

Our solution makes a double impact. The shoes are made in our partner Fair Trade factory, and designed to fit local uniform requirements. Making shoes locally solves a problem for school children and the crafts people who make them.

We believe education and job training programs are the most powerful weapons in the fight against extreme poverty

Your Impact

Many schools require uniforms and shoes for attendance, without them, a child may be turned away at the gate. New shoes remove a key barrier to entry, helping children complete school.

In rural and urban environments, children often walk long distances on rough terrain. Shoes help prevent cuts, infections, and parasitic diseases long-term foot injuries or misalignment.

Shoes are not a luxury–they’re essential protection.

$39 = 1 pair of shoes

390 = 10 children ready for school

$1,000 = 1 classroom fully equipped with footwear
